PROGRAMS
At Recovery Outdoor, we see recovery as a process of life-long learning that extends far beyond the context of clinical treatment, and requires a radical realignment in all areas of life. With our work, we aim to introduce a holistic perspective to recovery care, one that guides patients, practitioners, and the wider professional field of addiction treatment towards greater impact, effectiveness and sustainability. We work across three interconnected areas:
Counseling & Support – Outdoor programs that foster wholeness, belonging, connection and meaning in recovery from mental health challenges.
Training & Education – Courses and workshops for recovery coaches, counselors, and mental health practitioners.
Research & Development – Collaborative studies advancing the evidence base of adventure therapy and attachment-informed recovery.
Together, these programs form a cycle of practice, learning, and innovation — supporting individuals, training professionals, and growing knowledge in the field.

COUSELING & SUPPORT
Our treatment modalities support (young) adults facing mental health challenges, to learn to navigate life’s complexity, and build a meaningful life in recovery. We offer a variety of therapeutic outdoor programs where participants venture into wilderness settings, work with adventure therapy practices, and receive person-centred counseling to discover new ways of relating with themselves, others, and their place in society. These experiences are designed to stimulate improved regulation, resilience, and self-leadership, while also offering a new sense of being and belonging in the world.

TRAINING & EDUCATION
Recovery Outdoor also provides training opportunities for recovery coaches, counselors, and mental health practitioners who want to bring adventure therapy and attachment-informed approaches into their work. Our programs zoom in on our philosophy, and combine experiential learning in nature with applied modules on adventure therapy, trauma sensitivity, and psychosocial education. The aim of these courses is to give practitioners both the practical tools and the professional training to meet recovery challenges in more holistic and integrative ways.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
With our research we aim to advance the field of adventure therapy and integrative recovery through participatory action research. Our studies explore how outdoor therapeutic practice influence psychosocial development, attachment repair, and long-term wellbeing for people facing mental health challenges. By working in collaboration with universities, treatment centers, and lived-experience peer-groups, we are developing and testing new models of recovery care. The insights we gather shape best practices for the future of addiction treatment.
