At Recovery Outdoor, we see recovery as a process of life-long learning that extends far beyond the context of clinical treatment, and requires a radical realignment in all areas of life. With our work, we aim to introduce a holistic perspective to recovery care, one that guides patients, practitioners, and the wider professional field of addiction treatment towards greater impact, effectiveness and sustainability. We work across three interconnected areas:

  • Post-Treatment Interventions – Outdoor programs that foster wholeness, belonging, connection and meaning in early recovery.

  • Training & Education – Courses and workshops for recovery coaches, counselors, and mental health practitioners.

  • Research & Development – Collaborative studies advancing the evidence base of adventure therapy and attachment-informed recovery.

Together, these programs form a cycle of practice, learning, and innovation — supporting individuals, training professionals, and growing knowledge in the field.

PROGRAMS

  • INTERVENTIONS & PROGRAMS

Our interventions support (young) adults in the post treatment phase, when the focus shifts from abstinence to building a meaningful life in recovery. We offer therapeutic outdoor programs where participants venture into wilderness settings, work through adventure-based challenges, and practice new ways of relating within a peer community. These experiences foster emotional regulation, resilience, and self-leadership, while also offering a new sense of being and belonging in the world.

  • TRAINING, EDUCATION & MENTORSHIP

Recovery Outdoor also provides training opportunities for recovery coaches, counselors, and mental health practitioners who want to bring outdoor and attachment-informed approaches into their work. Our programs combine experiential learning in nature with applied modules on adventure therapy, trauma sensitivity, and psychosocial education. The aim is to give practitioners both the tools and the confidence to meet recovery challenges in more holistic and innovative ways

  • RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

With our research we aim to advance the field of adventure therapy and integrative recovery through applied research. Our studies explore how outdoor interventions influence psychosocial development, attachment repair, and long-term wellbeing. By working in collaboration with universities, treatment centers, and lived-experience communities, we are developing and testing new models of recovery care. The insights we gather shape best practices for the future of addiction treatment.
